What We Believe
Worship Service
We worship on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Our service is of the "blended" variety, in contrast to "traditional" or "contemporary." This means, for example, that we sing both the great hy mns of the Church and contemporary praise songs, depending upon the theme of the service. We utilize an overhead projector and screen, as well as hymnals and Bibles.
Our Pastor's sermons help worshipers understand the timeless truths of God's Word in relation to the wide range of issues and concerns that confront us. We are urged to implement specific action steps in response to what we have heard.
Frequently there is a Children's Moment, and then young children are dismissed for a Children's Church Program. Child care is availble for infants and toddlers during the entire service.
Sunday School follows worship and meets from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.Classes are offered for children, youth, and adults. Groups meet during the week, too. We are a church that strongly advocates life-long learning. Therefore, we make a great effort to offer classes that are stimulating and challenging.
Communion
We celebrate Communion, also known as Holy Communion, the Lord's Supper and the Eucharist, on the first Sunday of each month. In Communion, we remember God's gift of salvation from sin, by the atoning death of the Lord Jesus Christ; we acknowledge our need for that which Christ alone can provide, and we proclaim our identification with Him in all that He calls us to be and do.We alternate the way Communion is received between remaining seated and coming forward. In remaining seated, we are reminded that Christ came to seek and save us from our sins. There is nothing we can do to make ourselves worthy to receive what He gives us. In coming forward, we are reminded that the response of faith requires that we hear and obey His call to follow and serve Him.
We invite all who have placed their faith and trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord, and who have been baptized, to join us in observing the Lord's Supper. We welcome baptized children to receive the Lord's Supper, as well, recalling the words of Jesus, who said,"Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is of such as these that the kingdon of heaven belongs." Matthew 19:14 NRSV
